Scientific Methods in Cultural Heritage Research - Gordon Research Conference

The Gordon Research Conferences are among the world’s most prestigious scientific conferences, and the third cultural heritage scienceconference in this series, Probing Hierarchically Complex Historical Materials and Their Modes of Characterization and Alteration is taking place on July 31 to August 5th 2016 in Newry Maine. The Gordon Conferences are unique in that they offer not only extensive opportunities for in-depth discussion of the latest research in the field, but also blocks of time for building new professional relationships and forging bonds for future work between the most senior members of the field as well as emerging scholars. By focusing on hierarchically complex materials, we can engage experts from diverse fields of data capture and analysis in the formation of new collaborations to address cultural heritage problems and at the same time reciprocally enrich and challenge each field, stimulating the development and transfer of technologies between them. We, the organizers of the Scientific Methods in Cultural Heritage Research 2016 GRC, eagerly anticipate your joining with us for what promises to be a week of productive, stimulating, and forward-looking presentations and discussion. Our full program can be accessed online at https://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?id=15101. Partial funding is available to offset travel and registration costs if needed, please contact co-chairs Jennifer Mass (jmass@udel.edu) and Tim Wess (DeanOfScience@csu.edu.au) for more information. This meeting will be held in conjunction with a related Gordon Research Symposium specifically designed for emerging scholars in cultural heritage science on July 30-31st, Cross-Disciplinary Connection in Conservation Science and Technical Art History.

Applications for this meeting must be submitted by July 3, 2016. Please apply early, as some meetings become oversubscribed (full) before this deadline. Applications for oversubscribed meetings will only be considered by the Conference Chair if more seats become available due to cancellations.
