Call for Volunteers 2015 World Heritage Summer Field Work in Uzbekistan


Are you looking for a professional international summer experience related to cultural heritage?

Are you a bachelor or master student in the fields of cultural studies, architecture, archaeology, heritage management or conservation?

What? The UNESCO Office in Tashkent, in collaboration with the Board of Monuments of Uzbekistan, is looking for volunteers* who are interested in taking part in the 2015 summer field surveys. The participants will have the opportunity to be involved in and support the management activities of two World Heritage cities in Uzbekistan by conducting surveys of the historic traditional houses and developing a GIS database.

Why? This is a professional and personal opportunity to gain additional knowledge and understanding in cultural heritage management and develop practical skills in a real project within a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.

When? 1-13 July, 2015

Where? Itchan Kala (Khiva) or Samarkand – Crossroad of Cultures, Uzbekistan.

Application deadline: 15 March, 2015. Send a short motivation letter (max. 500 words) including CV and city of preference to work (Itchan Kala or Samarkand) to Sanjar Allayarov (s.allayarov(at)unesco.org) with Cc. to Ona Vileikis (ona.vileikis(at)asro.kuleuven.be)

Limited number of places available. Successful applicants will be informed by: 31 March 2015.

*Note: Travel and accommodation expenses will not be covered by the organizers. Visa is for free.
