Tapestry Conservation Internship Historic Royal Palaces

Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built.
Historic Royal Palaces, with the generous support of The Clothworkers' Foundation, is offering three one-year tapestry conservation internships from 2016-2019. These are to be offered to recent textile conservation graduates who are passionate about embarking on a career in the sector and looking to build on their practical skills in the specialist area of historic tapestry conservation.

The first placement is due to start in September 2016, with interviews held in August at Hampton Court Palace.

Based at Hampton Court Palace, the Intern will obtain critical insight and practical hands-on treatment skills as they work alongside some of the country's leading textile conservation specialists in HRP's long established conservation studios. Working in this unique environment, they will also gain insight into preventive conservation and conservation science as applied to tapestries as well as related project management processes. Successful applicants will be expected to be proactive in contributing to HRP's communication activities that explain and promote our conservation work.

The placement will be managed through a framework based on conservation professional standards. Interns will benefit from guidance and supervision from PACR-accredited studio supervisors and regular mentoring from the treatment conservation manager who will monitor progress and measure achievement during their high level learning experience.
