Built Heritage

This theme covers the built heritage which consists of an individual or group of buildings, structures, monuments, or installations, or remains, which are associated with architectural, cultural, spiritual, social or historical developments.

 

Built Heritage is the created structures of past generations, that is the effects of human activity on our surroundings.

 

To identify what built heritage is, and what is important, this theme includes:

  • Recording and surveying;
  • Protection of the built heritage through legislation and policy;
  • Conservation of protected historic structures including research, management, treatments, advice, grant aid and enforcement and the promotion of the wider appreciation and understanding of the built heritage and its potential, through publications, sources of advice and outreach activities.
